Starting
up Passport Coaching & Consulting
Passport Coaching and Consulting, was developed at the end
of the 80s, and had the good fortune to be born in an era of
adventure and possibility. At that time Janie and Mary were
working in staff development and training and with people who
were seeking new careers. They sensed that the more traditional
methods of career development, including prescribed questionnaires
replete with boxes to tick, were not quite fulfilling the real
needs of people.
Armed with some key comments and questions from potential
clients Janie and Mary took a trip to Amsterdam.
Sitting in cafes along the canals ideas were created; on large
pieces of paper, yes even back then! Janie and Mary got very
excited and passionate about how to help people think big and
adventurously about their lives not just about their
jobs. Janie and Mary reminisce; 'We recognised that people
wanted a space to look at the whole picture - not just an individual
part of it, as represented by the
|
job that they did.' They kept on coming back to the same inevitable
frustration; that people needed to think about work and how
to marry it with the complexities of everyday life. Juggling,
prioritising and compromising were all part of the mix.
People often take more restrictive decisions about their work
and lives due to this massive juggling exercise. Passport Coaching
and Consulting was borne out of the acknowledgement of this.
At its essence, it was about allowing space for dreams and
passions to flow.
